9/11 Families United Statement on Lies to Fox News by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

“The latest public relations stunt in a years-long campaign to mislead the American people”

Washington, D.C. – 9/11 Families United National Chair Terry Strada, whose husband Tom was murdered in the North Tower of the World Trade Center, tonight released the following statement regarding Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s claims to Fox News that the Kingdom had no involvement in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

“Osama bin Laden didn’t act alone on 9/11.  His organization was funded to the tune of $30 million a year by wealthy financiers and supporters.  The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was the ‘epicenter’ of that funding, which flowed primarily through Saudi government-sponsored ‘Islamic charities,’ which were run by Saudi officials.  They nurtured al-Qaeda and funded the Islamic schools that served as incubators for Taliban leaders. The Crown Prince is also fully aware of extensive evidence that Saudi officials provided financial and other material support to the 9/11 hijackers upon their arrival in the United States.  

“That is why, at this very moment, the Kingdom’s high-priced lawyers are aggressively opposing the 9/11 families in federal court to prevent us from using this documentary evidence against them.  They have also opposed the production of their own documents, opposed the questioning of witnesses, and asked the court to foreclose us from seeking evidence from the FBI about its investigation of the Saudi government agents.  At this very moment, their high-priced lobbyists in Washington are also actively trying to block the passage of the bipartisan “Ensuring Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act” (EJVTA – S.2082/ H.R. 4951) in Congress. 

“The Crown Prince’s lies tonight regarding not just 9/11 but also the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and a range of other issues are a reminder that the Kingdom is not an ally that can be trusted.  His interview with Fox News was just the latest public relations stunt in a years-long campaign to mislead the American people and hide his government’s involvement in the worst terrorist attack in American history.”
