ICYMI: 9/11 Families United Urges Accountability Before Agreements with Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON – Less than one week before President Donald Trump welcomes Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) to the White House to discuss a possible U.S.–Saudi defense pact, 9/11 Families United is urging the administration and Congress to ensure accountability for the role the Kingdom’s government agents and state-run institutions played in providing material support to al Qaeda and the nineteen jihadi hijackers who murdered our loved ones before any new agreements with the Kingdom are made.

In her new op-ed for Real Clear World, National Chair of 9/11 Families United Terry Strada argues that any agreement with Riyadh must recognize the ongoing litigation and the established links and still mounting evidence of the Saudi Kingdom’s involvement in the September 11 attacks.

“We are not calling for isolation or hostility — we are calling for accountability for the Saudi role in the attacks on September 11, 2001,” Strada writes. “Before we talk about defense pacts or nuclear technology, let’s first talk about justice.”

This call follows a major federal court ruling rejecting Saudi Arabia’s latest attempt to dismiss the 9/11 families’ civil lawsuit. The decision allows the case, which details the extent of direct support for al Qaeda and the 9/11 hijackers by the Saudi government and its agents, to proceed toward trial.
