9/11 Families United Applauds Trump Administration’s Commitment to Justice for Cuban American Families and Urges Equal Resolve for the 9/11 Community

WASHINGTON – 9/11 Families United today praised the Trump Administration for reaffirming its commitment to securing accountability and justice for Cuban American families that have spent decades seeking recognition, truth, and consequences for acts of terrorism and political violence that shattered lives.

For more than 30 years, families affected by terrorism and state-sponsored violence have pursued answers and accountability. Their persistence, and the government’s willingness to support those efforts, reflects an important principle: the United States will bring the perpetrators of crimes against Americans to justice.

The same principle must apply to the families and survivors of September 11 – the greatest crime against Americans on American soil in our nation’s history.

“The Trump Administration deserves recognition for acknowledging that families impacted by terrorism do not stop seeking truth simply because decades have passed,” said Terry Strada, National Chair of 9/11 Families United. “Commitments to justice cannot be selective or constrained by politics, diplomacy, or the passage of time,” she continued. “Later this summer it will be 25 years since the 9/11 Attacks, and during that time, thousands of American families will be asking when justice will prevail against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its financial and logistical support of al-Qaeda. We are buoyed by today’s indictment and determined to continue fighting for full transparency, accountability, and the opportunity to see evidence against the Kingdom fully examined in court.”

The 9/11 community has spent decades advocating for declassification of records, disclosure of investigative material, and the right to pursue accountability through the American legal system. Those efforts led to passage of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), bipartisan transparency initiatives, and ongoing litigation in federal court.

The Trump Administration’s recent posture toward longstanding claims involving Cuban officials demonstrates an understanding that accountability strengthens our national security and is not simply a historical or moral duty.

9/11 Families United respectfully calls on the Trump Administration to apply that same sustained commitment to:

  • Full compliance with transparency efforts involving 9/11 investigative records;
  • Meaningful engagement with unresolved concerns raised by the 9/11 community;
  • Continued support for accountability measures where evidence demonstrates material support for terrorism; and
  • Recognition that confronting uncomfortable truths strengthens, rather than weakens, American national security.

“Justice for one terrorism victim community should reinforce justice for all,” Strada added. “If the United States believes families impacted by terrorism deserve truth after thirty years, then the 9/11 community deserves the same unwavering commitment after nearly twenty-five.”

Never Forget is not a slogan. It is a responsibility.
