Media Advisory: 9/11 Families United to Hold Press Conference in Atlanta Ahead of The Masters

Discuss Need for Saudi Accountability in Midst of LIV Golf Sportswashing

ATLANTA – As 18 members of the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Tour prepare to tee off at the 87th Masters next week, family members of those murdered in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, will hold a press conference at The Commerce Club in Atlanta on Tuesday, April 4, at 10:00 a.m. EST, to discuss Augusta National Golf Club’s decision to embrace the American golfers who have partnered with the Kingdom over the last year to help “sportswash” its horrific record.

Terry Strada, National Chair of 9/11 Families United, whose husband Tom was brutally murdered while at work on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center, will detail her family’s personal connection to the game of golf and the 9/11 communities’ outrage at Augusta National Golf Club for inviting the Saudi-funded golfers to participate in The Masters.

Joining Terry will be Matthew Bocchi who lost his father John Bocchi, a managing director at Cantor Fitzgerald, in the North Tower on the 105th floor.

Augusta’s decision to embrace the Saudi-funded golfers came even after President Biden in 2021 declassified thousands of pages of government documents that had been kept secret for years from the American people, including the 9/11 Commission. The reports from the FBI confirmed what many had long suspected, but the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has long denied – Saudi government agents were involved in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

It also comes in the wake of a new State Department report released just last month on the Kingdom’s human rights record which detailed “credible reports” of arbitrary killings and enforced disappearances, including the detention of American citizens.

Credentialed media are invited to attend Tuesday’s press conference and participate in a brief Q&A with Terry and Matthew.
